A Message from the Executive Director

Hello friends of Southwest Boston CDC! We are sending you this newsy update after a very successful Green Team summer program, with 27 teens and crew leaders, and are now moving into our event season.

Our next annual event is on November 6th from 6:00-8:00PM at the historic Substation in Roslindale (across from Adams Park). This building feels like an Octoberfest beer hall. We’ll have buffet food from local restaurants and live music as well. Our theme “This is where we live, this is what’s happening!” in our neighborhoods. We’ll also recognize local residents, youth, businesses, and community partners.

2023 SWBCDC Highlights:

  • Housing over 200 tenants in our 95 affordable apartments for the long-term.

  • Identifying properties to buy more affordable rentals and build home ownership.

  • Helping businesses find new funds and buy their buildings.

  • Connecting people to local park and green upgrades, EPA’s Neponset River clean-ups, helping build a walking path along the river, and protecting tree canopies.

Many residents have had difficulties during COVID. This year we have been putting together a huge refinancing proposal with the state EOHLC (the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities) so that our current residents get more thorough upgrades, greener buildings, and longer-term financing to prevent displacement.

We want to thank you all: the Mayor’s Office of Housing, Individuals, private companies, and foundations. As well as you, our members and donors, who have generously supported us this past year.
